Transport Shift Manager

We are looking for full-time, permanent Transport Shift Managers to join us on our Iceland contract based in Swindon. You will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and effective running of our transport function, working on a 4 on 4 off (days and nights) shift pattern.

We are looking to offer a salary of up to £40,000k per annum depending on your skills and experience. Additionally, we offer 23 days holiday (inc bank holidays) and the option to buy more days. What you’ll do on a typical day:


  • Support the Assistant Transport Operations Manager with adherence to all compliance and legal obligations during your shift with a significant emphasis on safety, compliance, and continuous improvement
  • Assist with executing the daily plan for all deliveries and collections, with a keen eye on the resource available at the site and keep the customer updated
  • Ensure all process and procedures are followed and that we operate a safe and efficient environment
  • Provide leadership and guidance for the Transport FLM’s to enable them to meet objectives and encourage open communication
  • Lead investigations into any accidents or incidents and make recommendations to avoid recurrence, actioning and managing disciplinary process where necessary


What you need to succeed at GXO:


  • Demonstrable experience within a similar role managing a large multi temperature transport operation, preferably in a 3PL environment
  • International CPC (preferable) with up to date knowledge of WTD and all relevant transport legislation.
  • Experience in Microsoft excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent customer service and influencing skills with the ability to work under pressure
  • Strong people leadership skills and experience of managing a sizable team, focusing on performance management with experience of working in a unionised environment
