What you’ll do on a typical day:

  • Contribute to defining application database standards, to building application data models and implementing the data structures
  • Manage database performance in context of applications, working closely with System Database Administrators
  • Act as a liaison between project management, technical teams and IT leadership; ensure definition of and alignment to standard methodologies; drive consistency across applications and projects wherever possible
  • Provide ad-hoc data analysis to support business and IT management and application teams
  • Mentor developers and help resolve technical roadblocks; recognize organizational/team challenges and address them with management
  • Contribute in evaluation, selection and implementation of new tools for relational and non-relational data
  • Develop tools and processes to improve productivity of project teams in context of data

What you need to succeed at XPO:

At a minimum, you’ll need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, or equivalent technology discipline
  • Advanced knowledge of database technologies with expertise with Oracle technologies
  • Database expertise with non-Oracle technologies and non-relational data is an added advantage
  • Strong proficiency with SQL, and knowledge of Oracle PL/SQL
  • 5 years of experience in relevant software development experience including creating business applications with relational and non-relational database systems, within a fast-paced software development environment
  • 3 years of demonstrated experience in a data analyst or application DBA role
  • Advanced knowledge of IT software development methodologies and processes in an agile environment
  • Strong proficiency in at least one of the following, DBA and data analyst
  • Experience in Linux/Unix systems
  • Demonstrated successful experience in learning new technologies quickly
  • Deep knowledge/experience in the following, SQL, Oracle DBA tasks, data modeling
  • Following experience is desirable: Erwin, Exadata, Java, Python
  • Keeps current with emerging trends and technologies
  • Ability to quickly learn and achieve proficiency in new software applications and maintain thorough knowledge of internal company software applications applicable to position/business unit

It’d be great if you also have:

  • High-level learning agility
  • Passionate and self-motivated; work with a sense of urgency under minimal supervision within a fast-paced environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in technical settings with well-developed active listening and presentation skills; solid project management, time management, and prioritization skills; techniques for handling customer expectations
  • Transportation and logistics industry experience
  • Working experience and a good understanding of the AWS environment, ElasticSearch
  • Programming experience with Python; experience with REST APIs, and JSON
  • Experience with Hadoop (Hive, Spark, Sqoop) and/or AWS EMR or similar technologies
