We are currently looking for a full-time, HGV Class 1 Shunter on a fixed term contract to join us at our site in Barnsley on behalf of our customer ASOS. You will be working 40.2 hours per week. Your role will be to control all aspects of the yard including health and safety walks at start of shift ensuring that all containers are chocked, suzied and pallets are in front of the containers. Directing vehicles to the correct bays and making them safe for tipping. Collecting and processing paperwork.

What you’ll do on a typical day:


  • Ensure Environmental, Health & Safety requirements are met: - Comply with H&S policy & standards. 
  • Pre-User check on shunting vehicle at the start of the shift as defined by NDL logistics documentation to be kept in the shunters room and checked of via Team Leader.
  • Direct drivers to appropriate bays, give documentation to TL
  • Ensure the bay is safe to back onto, and work with the driver to back on safely and apply the dock leveller so the driver can drop the vehicle. 
  • To work on instruction from Team Leader regarding which container to move. Update yard sheets and inform driver where the container needs to go i.e. onto a bay to be Suzie locked and chocked or be removed from. 
  • Shunt containers dropped in yard and observe appropriate safety procedures


What you need to succeed at XPO:


  • Must have previous experience
  • C + E and FLT Counterbalance licence required.
  • DQC card (drivers CPC) and Current Digital Card (tachograph) 
  • Work on initiative and take ownership
