What you’ll do on a typical day:

  • Monitor costs capitalized to internally developed software to ensure costs are capitalized in accordance with accounting standards; review actual vs. budgeted spend with IT management;  prepare periodic reporting by project for internally developed software projects
  • Maintain general ledger accounts including the determination of journal entry requirements, and preparation and posting of journal entries
  • Perform monthly account reconciliations
  • Review, interpret and apply complex accounting concepts in accordance with GAAP and other authoritative guidance to contracts, transactions and activities
  • Research questions for management; investigate and explain variances to expectations
  • Participate in cross-functional work teams and continuously improve XPO processes

What you need to succeed at XPO:

At a minimum, you’ll need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related major 
  • 4 to 5 years of accounting or financial reporting experience 
  • Strong user of Windows applications and Microsoft Office programs such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Identify opportunities to improve accuracy and develop/recommend/implement solutions
  • Develop insightful, value-added and actionable analyses with detailed explanations regarding drivers of those results
  • Availability to work a variety of shifts to meet project needs including days, evenings and weekends; occasional travel

It’d be great if you also have:

  • Public accounting experience on large clients
  • Ability to perform complex analysis of data, processes, policies, procedures and/or systems
  • Compose thorough and detailed written interpretation of accounting guidance applicable to XPO agreements with third parties
  • Utilize variety of interpersonal styles and communication methods to effectively adapt to new work structures, processes, or cultures
