We’re currently recruiting for a transport General Manager for our Timber contracts with Saint-Gobain UK and Ireland, ideally based in the North West.  Consisting of a cluster of brands within the Saint-Gobain group we use a mixed fleet over 200 vehicles and trailers to deliver to their customers from 14 sites across the UK. Outside of operational compliance and financial performance you’ll lead the contract on safety and management of the customer.


Pay, benefits and more:


We’re looking to offer a salary of up to £65,000 per annum, plus a car or monthly car allowance and bonus. In addition, we offer 25 days holiday (plus bank holidays), as well as the option to buy additional days. What you’ll do on a typical day:


  • Oversee the successful and effective delivery of the operation, ensuring colleagues are fully engaged across all aspects of working safely
  • Develop and identify KPIs and continuous improvement initiatives for the contract to ensure high productivity, fast responsiveness to volume and profile changes
  • Working closely with the client management to ensure we have the most efficient operation possible to deliver the required performance
  • Build and develop an effective management team for long term success of the operation
  • Ensure we have the appropriate training and development actions in place to meet the evolving needs of the operation


What you need to succeed at XPO:


  • A genuine passion for safety and the development of a “safety first” culture across all of the team
  • Experience managing a multi-site transport contract within a third-party environment or general haulage
  • The energy and determination to drive excellent results across a large team
  • An international CPC qualification is essential
  • An effective understanding of budgets and P&L and how to drive cost efficiency in a transport environment
  • The ability to communicate effectively with all customers and stakeholders
