What you’ll need to succeed as a Engineer, Solutions Engineering at XPO
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or a related field, or equivalent related work or military experience
- 1 year of experience in one or more key functional areas: supply chain management, logistics, decision support systems/technology, transportation management and distribution or procurement functional responsibilities
- Excellent computer skills, including analysis, and spreadsheet and database proficiency (Excel, etc.)
- Transportation and network modeling experience
Preferred qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain or Industrial Engineering
- Able to deal with complex, urgent situations
- Knowledge of state-of-the-art technology and supply chain standard methodologies
- Experience in service center operations or LTL freight experience
- Analytical skills with a track record of proactively identifying potential issues and formulating solutions and contingency plans
- Self-motivated work style
- Results-driven focus with the ability to analyze, prioritize and act in accordance with ethics and values to achieve desired results

As a Solutions Engineer, you will drive improvements to labor planning tools and processes through rigorous data collection and analysis, crafting marketable solutions for our operations team and identifying, proposing, and delivering key initiatives that improve XPO’s Less-than-truckload operations (LTL). On our team, you’ll have the support to excel at work, and the resources to build a career you can be proud of.
What you’ll do on a typical day:
- Collaborate across functions to design, develop, and pilot tools and programs aimed at labor planning optimization. This could include staffing, overall dock and P&D performance and efficiency, reducing cost/CWT, and improving on-time service, quality, load average and overall safety
- Handle projects to completion and ensure savings commitments are met
- Develop and standardize a beneficial approach to LTL operations challenges, employing research, innovation and prior experience
- Perform research, data mining and simulations to identify and scope opportunities within the LTL network
- Serve as an active trainer and change agent in support of labor management initiatives
