As the Sr Director, Technology Operations, you’ll help the business utilize technology solutions to drive projects, revenue growth and/or efficiencies. You’ll have extensive contact with all management levels, primarily VP of Technology Infrastructure, other Sr Directors in Infrastructure, other IT Leaders, vendors, and other internal customers is required to identify, research, analyze and resolve complex user issues and establish strategy and plans.

What you’ll do on a typical day:

  • Develops, plans, directs and controls the development and implementation of business IT strategic planning including both financial and operational goals.
  • Identifies business needs to gain alignment between business and technical capabilities.
  • Performs high-level planning for current and future directions of the industry and associated technologies and spearheads implementation of new/upgraded systems and technologies with leadership team below them
  • Collaborates with VP of Technology Infrastructure, to establish initiatives to identify where conflicts/synergies exist between technologies and business functions.
  • Drives IT development across multiple teams and phases to ensure that IT Operations are aligned with business objectives.
  • Provide leadership, team building and technical practices expertise across the Infrastructure Operations and Platform team and act as the technical leader to a distributed team.
  • Be a key contributor to IT Automation, Availability, technical practices and help to drive successful delivery of our Infrastructure services.
  • Strong technologist and ability to get respect from the engineers and community. Must have experience with VSE, Mainframe, Storage and RHEL Platforms
  • Working with IT Infrastructure leaders and other key stakeholders to develop a strategy and roadmap to enable Infrastructure’s vision and goals
  • Foster an environment of data-driven decision-making
  • Define strategy to maintain and enhance technologies services that enable XPO’s business model and customer success
  • Develop technology capabilities allowing for data-based decision-making and innovation across XPO as an organization

What you need to succeed at XPO:

At a minimum, you’ll need:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent related work or military experience
  • 10 years of post-bachelor’s progressive experience in the following
    • Extensive experience managing a team of engineers delivering highly available applications and infrastructure solutions
    • Extensive experience with VMware, Windows Servers, Pure Storage, Mainframes and RHEL
    • Demonstrated success in running highly available production systems within a complex technology environment
    • In-depth knowledge of engineering practices and architecture/design
    • Demonstrated experience on building and running solutions for infrastructure/application monitoring and Disaster Recovery
    • Strong knowledge of ITIL and ITSM processes and experience with vendor and staff augmentation with remote service providers
    • Comfortable in high growth organizations.
    • A hands-on leader who possesses experience suited to an entrepreneurial and collaborative growth-oriented environment.
    • Proven track record and ability to attract and retain A-level talent.
    • A proven track record of successful collaboration with senior management team across all functions
    • Must have transportation industry acumen to lead a technology team that comprises of high-level technologists within leadership and teams alike

It’d be great if you also have:

  • Master’s degree in a technology related field
  • 5 years supervisory experience
  • Exceptional interpersonal and negotiation skills to deal effectively with individuals and groups both internally and externally; ability to lead, motivate and mentor team members
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to present clean, organized, and thorough information and data appropriate for intended audience
  • Available to work extended hours including weekends, and travel as needed
  • Strong aptitude for understanding and analyzing large amounts of data from multiple sources
