What you’ll need to succeed as a Customs Specialist at XPO

Minimum qualifications:

  • 1 year of related work experience
  • Strong computer and typing skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office
  • Available to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, nights and weekends

Preferred qualifications:

  • 2 years of office experience dealing with corporate customers, or inbound/outbound call center experience
  • Bilingual in English and French
  • Cross-border and customs brokerage experience
  • Working knowledge of the transportation industry
  • Strong problem-solving and investigative skills to bring issues to resolution
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Pleasant and professional phone etiquette
  • Able to multitask, prioritize workload and remain highly organized

 

About the Customs Specialist job

What you’ll do on a typical day:

  • Assist internal and external customers with inquiries relative to international shipping, customs requirements, shipment tracing, billing and invoicing questions and requests for information
  • Communicate with customs brokers and customers to ensure clearance of shipments to prevent unnecessary delays at the borders
  • Recognize and resolve documentation errors
  • Assist drivers with shipment and trip information relative to crossing the border
  • Process shipments and trips to ensure on-time service to our customers and seamless border crossings for our drivers
  • Maintain accurate shipment history and audit integrity
