Role Summary
The Senior BCDR Coordinator is accountable for leading and advancing the organization’s Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery (BCDR) program. This role ensures operational resilience by designing, governing, and executing strategies that safeguard critical business and technology services. Responsibilities span risk assessment, business impact analysis, continuity planning, DR architecture, documentation, testing, communication, and compliance—all aimed at meeting defined RTO/RPO objectives and regulatory requirements.
The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker and hands-on executor, skilled in driving program maturity, influencing cross-functional teams, and coordinating complex recovery exercises. They combine deep technical expertise with strong process ownership and communication skills, ensuring readiness for both planned and unplanned disruptions.
Key Responsibilities
- Program Ownership & Governance: Own and maintain the BCDR framework, policies, and standards aligned with ISO 22301, NIST SP 800‑34, and organizational risk appetite. Establish governance cadence through steering committees, risk review forums, audit responses, remediation tracking, and executive reporting dashboards. Maintain the BCDR risk register and control library to ensure effectiveness and continuous improvement.
- Planning & Design: Lead Business Impact Analysis (BIA) across business units and IT towers to identify critical processes and dependencies. Define and validate RTO/RPO objectives and map application tiers to appropriate recovery strategies. Design robust DR architectures for on-prem, hybrid, and cloud environments.
- Documentation & Change Control: Develop and maintain BCP/DR plans, playbooks, runbooks, contact trees, and crisis communication templates. Ensure integration with ITIL processes and maintain strict version control for all documentation.
- Testing & Exercises: Define the annual test strategy (tabletop, walkthrough, functional, full failover). Plan and execute DR drills for critical applications and platforms, track success metrics, and implement lessons learned for continuous improvement.
- Incident & Crisis Coordination: Act as the BCDR lead during incidents, managing activation criteria, war room facilitation, escalation management, and timely communication across stakeholders.
- Technology & Data Resilience: Oversee resilience of compute, storage, network, and backup systems. Validate backup/restore efficacy and ensure readiness for failover/failback scenarios.
- Stakeholder Management & Communication: Serve as the primary liaison across Business, Applications, Infrastructure, Security, Compliance, and Vendors. Deliver clear, timely communications before, during, and after tests and incidents.
- Compliance & Audit: Ensure adherence to regulatory and customer requirements. Manage audit evidence, respond to findings, and drive closure of corrective actions and CAPAs.
- Regulatory Compliance: Monitor and implement compliance with industry regulations such as SOX, PCI-DSS, and GDPR. Ensure DR strategies meet legal and contractual obligations and prepare documentation for regulatory audits and certifications if required.
Qualifications & Experience
- 10+ years in BCDR/Business Continuity/IT Disaster Recovery, with evidence of program ownership.
- Strong command of BIA, risk assessments, RTO/RPO design, DR runbooks, and exercise execution.
- Hands-on experience coordinating enterprise DR drills and real incidents.
- Fluency with ITIL/ITSM processes; integrating BCDR controls with change/release, CMDB, service mapping, and major incident management.
- Excellent written/oral communication, executive reporting, and cross-functional facilitation skills.
Technical Skills
- Expertise in DR architecture and failover/failback orchestration.
- Experience with backup/restore technologies, and replication would be of great advantage.
- Knowledge of hybrid infrastructure (on-prem and cloud) and cloud DR solutions.
- Strong understanding of ITIL/ITSM processes and integration with BCDR controls.
