GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Senior Data Scientist is responsible for designing and developing analytical experiments in a methodical manner, and regularly evaluate alternate models via various data science approaches to support strategic initiatives and ongoing business processes for XPO Logistics. This role works with leads, analysts, and data producers/consumers to understand requirements, develop technical solutions, and ensure the reliability and performance of the data solutions. This role will develop solutions that leverage, integrate with, and expand upon the company's Data Science & Engineering technologies and patterns. . The Senior Data Scientist will also act as a mentor to junior data scientist to help maintain a sustainable analytics ecosystem.
What you will do on a typical day:

- 50% - Conceive and develop end-to-end solutions focused on Data Science and Engineering using Machine Learning & Deep Learning Algorithms, Statistical Concepts, Data modelling, Software Development, Cloud Computing, and Visualizations.
- 10% - Troubleshoot technical issues in existing processes and current development work, solicit assistance from other roles and groups, and drive resolution to ensure the integrity of platform quality and project timelines.
- 10% - Understand and improve shared standard patterns, templates, and artifacts for Data Science platform architecture, data science development approaches, data models, new technology adoption, and rollout.
- 10% - Collaborate with upstream and downstream IT and business teams to identify and document use cases, performance and capability requirements, and criteria for successful solution delivery.
- 10% - Mentor other team members on technical skills, best practices, problem solving approaches, and standard patterns used at XPO Logistics.
- 5% - Proactively generalize and share technical approaches and best practices among other developers and simplify and communicate completed work to broader audiences across the company.
5% - Help support data consumers to ensure they have reliable access to trusted data. This includes periodic responsibility for 24x7 on call production support.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

- Minimum Required Education: Master's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Engineering, Econometrics, Finance, Business or similar required.
- Minimum Required Experience: Minimum 2 years' experience in delivering business solutions that rely on data science, data analytics, business intelligence, data warehousing, or similar domains
Desirable Education/Experience: 4 years hands-on experience in delivering solutions in at least two areas which include: Data Modeling, Data Integration, Data Analysis, SQL. And 2-5 years hands-on experience in delivering solutions in at least two of Data Science, Data Analysis, Geo Spatial, Finance, Econometrics, Cloud Computing, Big Data, and Database Management
Technical Competencies
- Data Science Skills –
- Solid experience applying one or more of the following analytical methods: regression (preferably mixed models), data classification and reduction (e.g. cluster, factor, principle components, decision trees), Bayesian inference or other advanced machine learning techniques.
- Deep understanding of statistical modeling, machine learning, deep learning, or data mining concepts, and a track record of solving problems with these methods.
- Solid technical database knowledge (Oracle, Hadoop, NoSQL, data modeling) and experience optimizing SQL queries on large data.
- Advanced Statistical theoretical and application experience.
- Proven Exploratory Data Analysis and Visualization experience using R and Python (Numpy, Pandas, Scipy, Plotly, Matplotlib)
- Analyze, summarize, and characterize large or small data sets with varying degrees of fidelity or quality, and identify and explain any insights or patterns within them
- Familiarity of core principles of data modeling and data warehousing
- Experience in handling 1000+ lines complex SQL codes to deliver complex data-based solutions in both development and data analysis work.
- Disciplined approach to testing software and data, identifying data anomalies, and correcting both data errors and their root causes
